A Season of Pride: Alloa Athletic 23/24 Reflection

Image
A 10-men Alloa side ended their season after play-off heartbreak in the scorching sun in Hamilton. Sound familiar? It was a narrative that many could draw upon several parallels to last season, however, the conclusion of the 2023/24 season felt very different to the conclusion of the previous.   It has been another rollercoaster of a season for Alloa Athletic. We have witnessed the very highs and lows with the team this season, gone through managerial change, and been treated to some special talents in the famous black and gold. This article will look to dive into a memorable season for the club and offer some reflection now the dust has settled.  This campaign had the most fitting of starts as we celebrated the testimonial of Wasp Legend, Kevin Cawley. Over 450 appearances for the club, Kev has been involved in multiple promotions and iconic moments over the years. So, this season began in June as welcome Alloa legends of the past, such as Jim Goodwin, Jason Marr, Graeme Holmes, the M

The Andy Graham Alloa Era Begins

Alloa Athletic have announced that club legend, Andy Graham, will be the new manager.  Following the shock news of Brian Rice's departure to Livingston last Thursday, supporters quickly turned to the fan forums to discuss and debate who would be his successor. Like many of the recent vacancies, a familiar name in Andy Graham was seen throughout the discussions. However, this time it felt different.  The 40-year-old centre back has been a stalwart for the Wasps since joining the club in 2016. This whole article could relay some of his greatest moments in the black and gold during his 254 appearances, but we will touch on a few. A promotion under his belt, Championship survival and, 2 inclusions in the PFA Team of the Year are only some of what he has achieved as captain of the football club. So where did this success story start and what can we expect going forward?  Graham joined the club in what was an off-season to remember under Jack Ross. 2nd June 2016, was pictured alongside

A Difficult Season Ending in a Sense of Hope - Alloa Athletic 2021/22 Season Review

Saturday brings the end to a somewhat forgettable season for Alloa Athletic. We take on Montrose at the Indodrill, who will no doubt be wrapping their players up in bubble-wrap before they head for the play-off's against Airdrie. This should be the type of dilemma that Alloa boss, Brian Rice, is dealing with, however, instead, we have a damp squib match with the possibility of moving up to 5th in the division. For that fact, this season, overall has to be chalked down as a failure. With the squad's ability, there is no doubt that the position we will finish is a major underachievement. However, going into this Saturday, I don't go in with the doom and gloom mindset that might have been associated with the position in the table. With a new man at the helm and a fresh way of thinking, the only way is up going into next season. This blog will look brightly into the future but before doing that, we have to dissect the season that has just been.  Four days after leading Kelty He

Brian Rice Appointment Begins a New Alloa Era

Image
Brian Rice has today been announced the new manager of Alloa Athletic following the resignation of Barry Ferguson. Alloa haven't been in the market for very long with Ferguson's seat being filled just after a week after he departed.  Alloa had been on a downward spiral with Ferguson at the wheel as a season filled with hopes of titles and success had become a relegation dog fight. A win for interim boss, Paddy Connolly, has given The Wasps some breathing space above the bottom but the impetus is on the team to put themselves in a much more reflective place in the division.  Similarly to when Peter Grant departed the Indodrill last summer, many fans touted captain, Andy Graham to take charge and it looked like he may with the skipper helping Paddy with training throughout the week. A very well respected player in the dressing room, well liked by the supporters and clearly destined to be his own man one day, the majority of fans thought it was a foregone conclusion. However, with

The Good, The Bad & The Crazy - Peter Grant's Alloa Reign

Wednesday afternoon saw the news break from Alloa that manager, Peter Grant, was to step down from his duties at the end of the season following the side's relegation to League One just days before. The writing seemed to be on the wall for Grant and the news didn't really come as a surprise to too many supporters of the club. Despite Mulraney's persuasion tactics and attempts to get Grant to reconsider, his twenty-four month stint will come to an end against Dunfermline next Friday night.  The last few years have been the most manic the world has seen, let alone football, and to Peter Grant's credit, he has led the team through some really troubling times well. It hasn't been the perfect spell as ultimately we have been relegated, however, his tenure at the club has had some moments to remember with exciting results, performances and players. This article will delve into his chaotic two-year spell pulling out the good, the bad and the crazy! Peter Grant is appointed
